Tschüß Paul The Octopus 2008-2010

October 26, 2010

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP)—Paul the Octopus, the tentacled tipster who fascinated football fans by correctly predicting results at this year’s World Cup, died Tuesday.

Paul had reached octopus old age of 2 1/2 years and died in his tank on Tuesday morning in an aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, spokeswoman Ariane Vieregge said.

Paul seemed to be in good shape when he was checked late Monday, but he did not make it through the night. He died of natural causes, Vieregge added.

“We had all naturally grown very fond of him and he will be sorely missed,” Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll said in a statement.  The aquarium has not yet decided how best to commemorate their most famous resident, he said.

In response to hundreds of requests to bring Paul to Spain, the Madrid Zoo asked Sea Life if it would be willing to make a deal to bring him in as a tribute to the Spanish football team’s victory, either temporarily or for good. But the German aquarium turned down that offer, too.

Paul also had an agent and Paul’s name will live on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where a permanent sea turtle rescue center funded in part by donations generated by the famous octopus is being established.

Many fans have commemorated Paul in their own way. RIP PTO

Michelle Obama and Daughter Will Go to Spain And Tie Up 30 Rooms of A 5 Star Hotel, Time For A Shoe Count

July 26, 2010

Washington/Madrid – US First Lady Michelle Obama and one of her two daughters will take a summer break in Spain, a White House source said Monday.

Mother and daughter would come to the southern holiday resort of Marbella on a “private visit in the company of old friends,” the source told the German Press Agency dpa.

US President Barack Obama will not accompany his wife, the source said.

Spanish media reports said Michelle Obama and her younger daughter Sasha, 9, would be on Spain’s Costa del Sol between August 4 and 8.

There had been speculation that Barack Obama might also come to Spain to celebrate his 49th birthday on August 4.

Michelle Obama has reserved about 30 rooms for herself and her daughter, their friends and bodyguards at a five-star hotel in Benahavis near Marbella, hotel sources said.

The US first lady did not make any special requests, hotel owner Ricardo Arranz said, explaining that the hotel would function normally during her stay.

Eye View Sports,Paul The “Octobeard” Picks Eight For Eight World Cup Wins, Avoids Calamari Card

July 11, 2010

UPDATE: PAUL THE OCTOPUS IS NOW EIGHT FOR EIGHT. AMAZING. The brilliant octopus finishes the World Cup with a perfect record, and as many correct picks as legs.

Paul, the remarkable oracle octopus whose knack for predicting the outcome of World Cup games has earned him worldwide fame as well as “revenge grilling” death threats, has outdone himself. The precious prognosticator made two final World Cup picks on Friday, putting his hard-earned credibility on the line in a bold gambit.

The generous genius predicted that Germany will conquer Uruguay in the tournament’s third-place game on Saturday, and he picked Spain over the Netherlands in the final on Sunday — the first non-German game the majestic mollusk has ever predicted.

Paul’s prophetic picks have been unassailable during the World Cup. By choosing between two mouthwatering mussels, Paul indicates which team he knows will win. The soccer sage successfully forecasted all four of Germany’s victories and both of the country’s losses.

Paul “the wise guy” is being investigated as “octobeard” by FIFA, Nevada Gambling Commission, and Cooking Channel.

Who’s running Europe? Now Obama pressures Spain over cuts after whispers he advised Merkel on saving the euro.
Barack Obama is pressuring Spain to make austerity cuts as the European debt crisis rumbles on, it has emerged. The U.S. President has also been credited with helping to save the Euro, after giving advice to European leaders on how to handle the debt crisis.U.S. officials have been adamant that Europe must take the lead in resolving the crisis.

But amid fears for the impact on the American economy, behind closed doors the U.S. has been taking a far more active role.

Mr Obama and his aides have privately pressured European leaders to take bold action to calm the storm in financial markets.

Pressure: U.S. President Barack Obama has called Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero to urge Spain to take ‘resolute action’

Spain’s public finances, along with Portugal’s, have caused the most concern after those of Greece, which secured a European bailout.

The White House said Mr Obama was actively engaged in ensuring that Europe’s debt crisis did not hurt the global economy.

There are fears that the state of the economies in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ireland – who all currently have high levels of debt – could stall the U.S. economy just as it was beginning to improve.

Mr Obama has held phone calls with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy about the European crisis in recent days. Merkel taking heat from her decision on the bail out has taken political hits in the polls and recent election.

After sinking the political careers of Democratics in Congress, O is now going after sinking the careers of world leaders…Where are the US austerity cuts???
