Rahm Emanuel Wants To Pass Dream Act Ahead Of US, Could Be Nightmare For US AG Holder

January 14, 2011

In recent months, former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been widely criticized by immigration reform advocates who say he did not throw enough support behind the DREAM Act when he was in Washington. Emanuel has disputed those claims, and is now out to prove just how much he supports giving the children of immigrants a chance to attend college in the United States.

The Chicago for Rahm campaign issued a press release Thursday evening touting Emanuel’s plan for immigration reform…in Chicago.

“Just because Congress has yet to pass the Dream Act doesn’t mean we will wait for progress in Chicago,” Emanuel said in a statement.

Would AG Holder visit Chicago by way of Arizona?

Rahm Emanuel Said This Crisis Should Go To Waste But Not The T-Shirts

January 13, 2011

At a news conference today, Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel was haunted by his past statement about exploiting a crisis for benefit. When asked if the Arizona shooting is a crisis that shouldn’t go to waste, Emanuel emphatically said “no” and also was able to elaborate on exactly what his original crisis statement was.

Emanuel said’“First of all, what I said is never allow a good crisis go to waste when it’s an opportunity to do things that you had never considered or what you didn’t think were possible. That’s not intended for this moment nor does it apply to this moment.”

Emanuel said this crisis should go to waste but not the nice quality theme t-shirts..That would be a waste of taxpayers money and wouldn’t be right.

Rahm Emanuel Leaves Washington To Become Mayor Of Chicago, Typos Are A Terrible Thing To Waste

December 14, 2010

Rahm is defending the one year residency requirement for his bid for mayor of Chicago while being a resident of DC.

When Rahm Emanuel originally filed his 2009 Illinois tax return, he indicated he was only a “part-year resident’’ of the state that year, since he had moved to Washington D.C. to serve as President Obama’s chief of staff.

But after he decided to return to Chicago to run for mayor this fall — and after several people challenged whether he was eligible to run based on the fact that he hadn’t lived in the city for a full-year prior to the Feb. 2 election — he filed an amended return, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Part of the evidence being used in the residency challenge to Rahm Emanuel’s candidacy is a YouTube video displaying his home for sale.

The realtor’s tour-style video, which was put together for Real Estate Agent Charlotte Newberger, shows sweeping images of the Emanuel home at 4228 Hermitage Avenue set to wistful piano music.

Though the video is clearly labeled “Homes for Sale – 4228 Hermitage, Chicago, Il, 60613 – Charlotte Newberger,” Emanuel’s camp says there was a typo.

Eye View Hollywood, Ari Is Getting His Entourage Together To Help His Brother Rahm, What Are They Drinking?

October 24, 2010

Five well-known Hollywood Democrats — David Geffen, Bob Iger, Peter Chernin, Haim Saban, and Ari Emanuel — are hosting a November 4th fundraiser for Ari’s brother Rahm Emanuel in his bid to become Chicago’s next mayor. Rahm, a former Democratic U.S. Representative from Illinois’ 5th Congressional District, resigned as President Obama’s White House Chief Of Staff on October 1st. The Hollywood fundraiser will be held at Saban’s palatial Beverly Hills home.

Geffen is the former DreamWorks SKG partner and longtime music and film mogul. Iger is the CEO of the Walt Disney Company. Chernin is the former No. 2 of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp and now a busy Fox TV and film producer. Saban is a private equity investor and entertainment producer best known for making the Power Rangers television show into a worldwide hit.  And Ari is the co-CEO of WME Entertainment investment banking and the personality used for Ari Gold in the HBO show Entourage.

Technically, Emanuel has not physically resided in Chicago for the previous 365 days and is not eligible to run for mayor, so California residents donating money for local Chicago issues makes just has much sense. What are they drinking????

Dems May Lose The House But Rahm Will Take Back His House, Or Else

September 28, 2010

It’s Chicago politics at its best

An effort by Chicago mayoral hopeful Rahm Emanuel to move back into his North Side home next month was axed by the man who leased it.

• The kicker: Sneed also hears rumbles there was a nixed request for Rahm to move into the basement of his leased home if the tenant didn’t move out.

• To wit: Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, who has been in the process of quickly building a network to run for mayor — had been trying to move back into his leased home at 4228 N. Hermitage.

• The upshot: Sneed has learned the tenant, Robert “Rob” P. Halpin, 59, who holds the lease with his wife, Lori, until June 2011, refused to budge.

“I’m told Rahm and a close lawyer friend made several polite phone calls to Halpin last week, but he bumped up against the wrong guy,” said a top Sneed source. “Halpin reportedly conducts his business from the house and his two kids are in school. He doesn’t want to move.”

In a telephone interview, Halpin, who described himself as an industrial real estate developer in the midst of heading to Louisville on business Monday, told Sneed: “Look, according to the lease I am not allowed to speak to the media about the house.”But I can tell you I have no plans to move.”

House problems and possible residency problems.. In Chicago, Emanual will take back the house or else…

In Truth is Stranger Than Fiction Department,Super Agent “Ari Gold” Helped Swing The LeBron Deal

July 12, 2010

Today,  Advertising Age provides a bit more of the back story as to how Lebron’s “The Decision” got off the ground. One oddly fitting detail: Hollywood super-agent Ari Emanuel — brother of White House chief of staff Rahm, basis for Entourage’s Ari Gold — was involved in the project since the onset of the NBA Finals, prior to James formally entering the free-agent market.

Sen Durbin Calls For Carp Czar

June 26, 2010

As concerns mount about the presence of Asian carp near Lake Michigan, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin today urged President Obama to appoint a carp czar to oversee efforts to keep the invasive species out of the Great Lakes.

“We need to have one person who coordinates the efforts of the federal, state and local agencies that are doing everything they can to keep the Asian carp out of Lake Michigan,” Durbin said during a news conference at the Shedd Aquarium. “We believe it’s absolutely essential.”

Durbin was responding to the discovery of a bighead carp, a variety of Asian carp, during routine sampling this week in Lake Calumet, just six miles from Lake Michigan. Standing beside environmental advocates who have championed closing Chicago-area locks as a way to prevent carp from entering Lake Michigan, Durbin called the finding a possible “game changer” and said “we have to take it very seriously.”

Rahm Subpoenaned For Blago Trial. May Not Like This Crisis

June 3, 2010

President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, was subpoenaed by the defense to testify in Rod Blagojevich’s upcoming trial, the White House acknowledged Wednesday.

Presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett also was subpoenaed, according to the White House, which confirmed both subpoenas after the Chicago Sun-Times reported the news online Wednesday.

Blagojevich attorney Sheldon Sorosky described Emanuel as a “critical” witness for the defense because he was the supposed victim of an extortion, according to charges in the case.

One of the allegations against Blagojevich is that the then-governor tried to extort Emanuel when Emanuel was a congressman. Prosecutors say Blagojevich held up releasing $2 million in state grant money for the Chicago Academy, which was in Emanuel’s North Side and suburban congressional district, because Blagojevich wanted to get Emanuel’s brother, a Hollywood agent, to hold a fund-raiser for him in exchange for releasing the grant money.

Sorosky said the defense would want to ask Emanuel about that alleged attempted extortion and the U.S. Senate seat selection concerning now-White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.
