PETA Wants Sign To Memorialize Fish Killed In Truck Crash, Bass Pro Shops Support Their Signage On Location

October 30, 2012

An Irvine resident is requesting that the city install a sign to memorialize the hundreds of fish killed in a traffic crash in early October as they were being taken to Irvine Ranch Market. In the letter, Dina Kourda, on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, asks the city’s street maintenance superintendent to place the sign at the site of the crash on Walnut and Yale avenues.

The hundreds of pounds of saltwater fish shut down an Irvine intersection for hours while the mess was cleaned up. The sign would read, “In memory of hundreds of fish who suffered and died at this spot,” to remind tractor-trailer drivers of their responsibility to the animals who are “hauled to their deaths every day,” according to the letter provided by PETA.

“Although such signs are traditionally reserved for human fatalities, I hope you’ll make an exception because of the enormous suffering involved in this case,” the letter read.

Peta Wants To Open Meat Is Murder Museum In OJ Simpson House, Spam Takes Offense

January 21, 2012

In a strange turn of events, an animal rights group is turning to the chief executive of a big bank for help. They want O.J. Simpson’s house.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, sent JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon a letter requesting that he donate Simpson’s foreclosed house to the organization, CNNMoney reports. If the organization gets access to the house, PETA officials say they plan to use the property to open a “Meat Is Murder” museum, because Simpson often promoted meat products in the past.

PETA Praises Obama And Return Of Quarterback Michael Vick But Still Hates Bush

December 29, 2010

The president’s decision to offer praise for NFL quarterback Michael Vick is garnering mostly positive reviews from the public–including from the largest animal rights group in the world.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) told The Washington Post’s Perry Bacon Jr. that it was “appropriate” for Obama to praise the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles for giving Vick a second chance following Vick’s prison term for his role in a dog-fighting ring.

“Obama’s a sports guy, Vick’s a sports guy, and comebacks and redemption can happen,”

Bacon maintained that redemption is a good thing but as usual we will always hate Bush forever no mater what.

Pamela Anderson And PETA Want To Tell Jews What to Put On Their Head

November 7, 2010

TEL AVIV, Israel – Former “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson said Sunday she will try her powers of seduction while in Israel on an unlikely audience — ultra-Orthodox Jewish lawmakers.

Anderson, an honorary director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is in Israel to participate in the local version of “Dancing with the Stars.”

Her work for animals “has been really inspiring,” she said. “I feel like I have actually done something.”

An anti-fur bill has been put on hold in Israel over concerns by ultra-Orthodox leaders that it could impact production of the characteristic fur hats worn by some men from Hassidic sects on holidays and other festive occasions.

To combat growing secularization of Jews to European society in the 18th century, Hassidic Jews decided that their way of dress should remain intact and not be influenced by fashion. Descendants of these communities to this day wear the black hats and coats of that period, including, at times, fur hats.
