Mayor Bloomberg Pushes Women To Breastfeed. All Signs Point Toward Nanny State..

August 4, 2012

The nanny state is going after moms.

Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked  doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that  participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk  program in the nation.’But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.’

Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but  hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in  locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a  talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

“It’s the patient’s choice,” said Allison Walsh, of Beth Israel Medical  Center. “But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.”

Woody Allen Says NYC Has Become Too Expensive To Shoot Movies

August 24, 2010

Woody Allen says he began shooting movies in European cities because he couldn’t afford to do so in New York.

However, the film director told reporters in the northern Spanish city of Oviedo that he finds Manhattan poses fewer limitations than European cities, where more tailoring of the story is required to fit the location.

Allen was in Spain Tuesday to attend a premiere of his last film, “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger” in the nearby town of Aviles.

On Monday, Allen, who is being accompanied by his wife and one of his daughters, took part in a promotional video for the Asturias region, known for its stunning mountains and coastal scenery.

New York City Mulling Fee For Garbage Pick Up, New Yorkers Know The Difference Between Taxes and Fees

July 23, 2010

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he’s thinking about plugging his budget gap by charging New York City residents a fee for trash removal.

City residents produce 11,000 tons of trash every day. Collecting it is covered by taxes.

But there is a proposal to separate garbage collection from general taxes, and charge people for what they throw away, based on how much it is.

Plenty of New Yorkers are turning up their nose at the idea.

“I’m very much against it,” one resident said.

“I think we pay a lot of taxes already,” another added.

Mayor Bloomberg said while a trash fee is far from “in the bag,” he refused to rule it out as the city struggles with a financial crisis.

“Everything will be on the table,” Bloomberg said.

Critics of the plan said it would result in people throwing away garbage in city bins, sneaking it over to their neighbors’ cans or dropping on curbside.

Calling taxes “fees” doesn’t make it any less stinky………

Chaos, Anarchy To Reign If Paterson Shuts Down NY.Don’t Bet On It

June 11, 2010

Chaos and anarchy. That’s what New York Gov. David Paterson is warning if he’s forced to shut down the government in a few days.

The New York  state Legislature, now deadlocked for 71 days on the budget, are ready to take down the “big tent” and bring state government to a standstill. At least that’s what Paterson thinks.

“No one knows the full ramifications of a government shutdown,” said Paterson. “It would create unimaginable chaos around the state and the greater metropolitan areas.”

Such chaos includes closing all state parks, motor vehicles offices, courts, and even the lottery. Public assistance payments would not be made and unemployment payments might also be held up.

Don’t bet on Paterson shutting down the government. And if they did, maybe not that many people  would care…
