America’s newest Olympics gymnastics star Gabby Douglas got scolded Monday night by first lady Michelle Obama for eating a celebratory Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s after the competition was over.
This occurred on NBC’s Tonight Show with host Jay Leno acting as the devil on Douglas’s shoulder congratulating her for the splurge.

Oh dear. A female New York Times journalist who is very well-disposed towards the Obama family writes a book about the First Couple, their marriage and the White House that portrays the President and his inner circle as dysfunctional.
What does the Obama administration do? Frantically trying to blunt the coverage about the book, including revelationS of f-bombs from Robert Gibbs, then Press Secretary, and lavish parties during a recession, it puts Michelle Obama on television to state this:
“You know, I guess it’s more interesting to imagine this conflicted situation here and a strong woman and a, you know, but that’s been an image that people have tried to paint of me since, you know, the day Barack announced, that I’m some angry black woman.”
I’m sorry but it simply won’t wash. It’s an attempt to change the subject. It’s a way to say that any criticism of the Obamas – or even any truthful warts-and-all portrayal – is racist and therefore unacceptable. And people will see through it.

First lady Michelle Obama enjoyed a lovely evening at Co Co. Sala on F Street on Monday night. A Yeas & Nays source tells us she dined with seven friends for dinner and, of course, dessert — which featured an edible chocolate sculpture and house-made artisanal chocolates by Chef Santosh Tiptur. We’re told Obama’s favorite savory was Chef Tiptur’s Moroccan Swordfish Sliders with chermoula marinade, fennel salad, aged pecorino and hazelnut coffee dressing. The restaurant owners later posted to Twitter about their excitement of having her as a guest. “It was such an honor to have first lady Michelle Obama dine at Co Co. Sala last night. What an exciting and humbling experience!”

MICHELLE OBAMA is now furious with Southern cooking queen PAULA DEEN for crowing that the first lady, a healthy eating advocate who’s waging a war against childhood obesity, pigs out on fattening foods.
While plugging her new book, “Paula Deen’s Southern Cooking Bible,” the feisty TV chef took a pot shot at Michelle for gorging herself on greasy french fries, fatty hot chicken wings and sugary deep-fried Snickers bars!
“Michelle’s spitting mad,” a source told The ENQUIRER.
“She thinks Paula is trying to smear her and her family just as the 2012 presidential election race swings into gear.”
The trouble first began before Barack Obama was even elected president in 2008, when Michelle made a guest appearance on Deen’s popular “Paula’s Party” show and revealed that fried shrimp was her family’s favorite meal. Paula added: “She probably ate more than any other guest I ever had on the show! She kept eating even during commercials. Know what (the Obamas’) favorite foods are? Hot wings. Y’know – those kinds of foods that aren’t necessarily top-of-the-list healty foods.

First Lady Michelle Obama may have temporarily forgotten the lessons of her own anti-obesity campaign when she indulged in a sinfully caloric lunch Monday at a popular new hamburger restaurant.
A Washington Post reporter said the first lady ordered a cheeseburger, french fries, chocolate shake and Diet Coke at Shake Shack — a trendy hamburger spot that recently opened an outpost in Washington’s Dupont Circle.
Based on nutritional information on the restaurant’s website, the meal added up to a scale-tipping 1,556 calories.
Obama has made the fight against childhood-obesity a central focus of her White House tenure and launched the “Let’s Move” campaign to promote exercise and ensure children have access to healthy food.
The Post noted, however, that she has also admitted to having an “obsession with french fries.”
“It’s all about moderation,” she has told reporters.

During her visit to South Africa, First Lady Michelle Obama stopped by the University of Cape Town for an event with young people. After her speech, she was asked a series of soft questions like, “What advice can you give the youth today?” But at the end of the session, one young person in the audience asked Mrs. Obama, who has devoted much of her time in the White House to promoting nutrition and healthy eating, what her favorite foods are.
“My favorite?” Obama said. “Oh, this is a tough one. “It is tough, you know, because if I say something not healthy, people will be, like, you aren’t really committed to health. If I say something healthy, you know — I do — honestly, I like all kinds of foods.”
Obama mentioned Indian food, and then Mexican food, and then said: “No, if I picked one favorite, favorite food, it’s French fries.” The audience began to laugh. “Okay? It’s French fries,” Obama continued. “I can’t stop eating them.”As the students laughed more, the First Lady quickly returned to her role as advocate of health eating. “But eat your vegetables,” she said, to still more laughs. “And exercise.”

Less than three years into the job, first lady Michelle Obama is on her third chief of staff and third social secretary. She is on her second communications director, the White House chief usher recently departed, and her press secretary’s last day is Friday.
On Friday afternoon, the first lady’s office announced that the executive director of Obama’s signature campaign to fight childhood obesity also is leaving.

Remember how Michelle Obama caught all that flak last month for daring to wear a dress by a European designer to the state dinner for China?
Oscar de la Renta was the first to speak up, saying “American fashion right now is struggling. I think I understand what [Obama and her advisers] are doing, but I don’t think that is the right message at this particular point.”
Then Diane von Furstenberg, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, said in a statement to WWD: “CFDA believes in promoting American fashion. Our First Lady Michelle Obama has been wonderful at promoting our designers, so we were surprised and a little disappointed not to be represented for this major state dinner.”
Turns out von Furstenberg is a little remorseful about how much criticism the story drew. In that year, she has shimmied in a Hula-Hoop, run barefoot through an obstacle course and played flag football on the White House lawn.
“When I do these things, I’m thinking, ‘If people see me — the first lady — with my shoes off, running around with kids, sweating, jumping around, making a fool out of yourself, then maybe more moms and dads will say, ‘I can do that, and actually that looks fun,’ ” Obama tells NPR’s Michele Norris in a conversation at the White House.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Obama personally conducted a conference call for “online media” that was “by invitation only,” according to the Daybook.
