Eye View Sports, Pope Waited For “The Decision”.

July 27, 2010

It is not the sort of head-wear you’d expect the Pope to sport. But Pope Benedict XVI broke with tradition by wearing a baseball cap as he went for a stroll around his summer residence on Sunday. The Pontiff looked like he would be more comfortable walking through the mean streets of an inner-city than a quiet garden in rural Italy.

He even colour-coordinated his new cap, perhaps mindful of the need for it to blend in with his white robe and white hair.

The 83-year-old donned the trendy hat as he walked around his estate in Castel Gandolfo, south of Rome.

The cap also served the more useful purpose of keeping the hot summers heat off the Pope’s head.

When asked why the Pope went with the all white no logo ball cap, he replied he was keeping his options open until he learned which team LaBron was going with. He said he didn’t want to bias King James.

Bennie  said his newly acquired Miami Heat hat with the number 16  was back in the Popmobile.. The Pope joked that both he and Pau Gasol of the Lakers are number 16.. The Pope added Gasol is taller. but I have a higher reach.

In Truth is Stranger Than Fiction Department,Super Agent “Ari Gold” Helped Swing The LeBron Deal

July 12, 2010

Today,  Advertising Age provides a bit more of the back story as to how Lebron’s “The Decision” got off the ground. One oddly fitting detail: Hollywood super-agent Ari Emanuel — brother of White House chief of staff Rahm, basis for Entourage’s Ari Gold — was involved in the project since the onset of the NBA Finals, prior to James formally entering the free-agent market.

Eye View Sports,You Know Your Corporate Brand Has Gone Up In Smoke, When Jesse Jackson Chicago Circus Comes To Town

July 12, 2010

LeBron James might have left the Cavs for the Heat, but suddenly there’s a lot more heat back in Cleveland.

According to the Associated Press, the Rev. Jesse Jackson is upset with an open letter written by Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert after his star player decided to move to Miami. The bitter comments directed toward the free agent sound like they’re directed at a “runaway slave,” according to Jackson.

Gilbert’s letter, addressed to his team’s fans, derided James as “narcissistic” and claimed that he “deserted” Cleveland.

The AP left messages for Gilbert, the Cavaliers, James and the NBA on Sunday night for reaction to Jackson, who said the comments in the letter “personify a slave master mentality” and that Gilbert should face a “challenge” from the league. Eye View Sports.Witnessing A PR Disaster On The Court of Public Opinion

July 12, 2010

LeBron James is being dropped off a building. Workers began dismantling the 10-story-tall iconic image of James on a mural in downtown Cleveland on Saturday. The billboard has dominated the city’s skyline for years but is being removed after the superstar announced he was leaving the Cavaliers for the Miami Heat.As strips of the image of James, his arms outstretched and head thrown back after doing his pregame powder toss, began coming off, pedestrians stopped on Ontario Street to take photos and cars pulled to the side for one last look at No. 23, who has gone from being a hometown hero to villain.

In addition, Fathead.com, an online retailer owned by Cavs owner Dan Gilbert dropped the price of its LeBron Fathead wall decals from $99.99 to $17.41, which happens to be the same year Revolutionary War traitor Benedict Arnold was born.

Gilbert posted letter to Cleveland fans, ripping James for “a several-day narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of the decision unlike anything ever ‘witnessed’ in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.” PR disaster. From hero to zero like nero.

Obama and LeBron, No I In Team But 2 I’s in Biographies

July 9, 2010

Charles Krauthammer…It’s fine to recognize the achievements of others and be non-chauvinistic about one’s country. But Obama’s modesty is curiously selective. When it comes to himself, modesty is in short supply.

Notice,  how Obama habitually refers to Cabinet members and other high government officials as “my” – my secretary of homeland security, my national security team, my ambassador. The more normal and respectful usage is to say “the,” as in “the secretary of state.” These are, after all, public officials sworn to serve the nation and the Constitution – not just the man who appointed them.

It’s a stylistic detail, but quite revealing of Obama’s exalted view of himself. Not surprising, perhaps, in a man whose major achievement before acceding to the presidency was writing two biographies – both about himself.

Obama is not the first president with a large streak of narcissism. But the others had equally expansive feelings about their country. Obama’s modesty about America would be more understandable if he treated himself with the same reserve. What is odd is to have a president so convinced of his own magnificence – yet not of his own country’s.

Barack and LeBron play for their own team. No I in team but 2 I’s in biographies..

LeBron’s Infomercial “The Decision” Has Design Flaws, Poor Planning

July 9, 2010

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has written an open letter to Cavs fans, slamming LeBron James for his national television appearance announcing his decision to leave.

Consistent with Cleveland fans’ reaction to LeBron’s decision, Gilbert expresses utter disappointment. But he goes much farther, calling the basketball star “narcissistic,” stating he has deserted his hometown and calling the move a “cowardly betrayal.”

From hero to zero, one hour infomercial, rubbing his decision to leave the Cavs, in  the face of  Cleveland, is a strategic blunder for Brand LeBron, has serious design flaws.

Eye View Sports,LeBron Chooses Miami Heat,Puts Full Course Press On Tax Man

July 8, 2010

While sports reporters have sought agents and teammates for the inside scoop on where NBA superstar free agent LeBron James will sign, there’s another person who may know The King’s next move: his accountant.

In a July 1 blog post, the New York Post warned that “dysfunctional lawmakers in Albany” could cost the state a chance to bring the coveted athlete to New York.

“If LeBron James goes to the Miami Heat instead of the [New York] Knicks, blame our dysfunctional lawmakers in Albany, who have saddled top-earning New Yorkers with the highest state and city income taxes in the nation, soon to be 12.85 percent on top of the IRS bite,” the Post said.

The tax savings for James in Miami over New York City would be staggering, according to the Post’s analysis.

“On a five-year contract worth $96 million — what he’d get from the Knicks or the Heat — LeBron would pay $12.34 million in New York taxes.” Florida has no state income tax. Team James rejects state tax man..

Eye View Sports,There is no “I” in Team. But there are Three “U”s in Shut the Fu*k Up

July 7, 2010

The Championship of Me comes crashing into a primetime cable infomercial that LeBron James and his cronies have been working to make happen for months, a slow, cynical churning of manufactured drama that sports has never witnessed. As historic monuments go, this is the Rushmore of basketball hubris and narcissism. The vacuous star for our vacuous times. All about ‘Bron and all about nothing.

Team LeBron is having the time of its life, but has no idea the repercussions of what it’s done here. All that comes to James now is the biggest burden to win a championship that sports has ever seen. They aren’t making James a bigger star with this big-top, but a bigger target.

Greatest talent to ever walk into this league, the self-proclaimed King, and now everyone gets a front-row, primetime seat for how it means to live without self-awareness, without restraint. The vacuous star for our vacuous times, live on Thursday night and fitting himself for a ring as the undisputed Championship of Me.

There is no “I” in team. But there are three “u”s in shut the fu*k up ‘Bron.
