Women Shoots Self With Oven The New Betty Glocker

February 21, 2013

A woman cooking herself a snack has been  wounded after the bullets her roommate left inside the oven exploded and sprayed  her with shrapnel.

Aalaya Walker, 18, preheated the oven of her  apartment in Tampa, Florida, on Monday to make herself waffles – not knowing  that Javarski ‘JJ’ Sandy, 25, had stashed his Glock  pistol magazine with four live  rounds in the appliance.

Ms Walker was hit in the chest and the leg by  shrapnel from at least one round. Police determined that Mr Sandy, who works at  WalMart, had committed no crime. He was not charged.

Congress Outlaws Incandescent Bulbs Some Small Home Appliances Affected

June 6, 2011

Turns out, changing a light bulb is harder than it seems.

New bulbs using halogen, compact-fluorescent and LED technologies have been sprouting up on store shelves recently. The flurry of products is a result of legislation passed in 2007 that requires general-purpose bulbs, starting in January, to be at least 25% more efficient than those using standard incandescent technology invented by Thomas Edison in 1879.

As a result, most of today’s incandescent bulbs will be phased out (some specialty bulbs are exempt) by 2014 and replaced by more efficient alternatives. While cheap at 25 to 50 cents a pop, incandescent bulbs waste nearly all their energy in heat output.

The light-bulb industry now faces a daunting task of re-educating shoppers who are still in the dark about their choices.

Small home appliance users will have to be re-educated as well.
