Fourteen-year-old Anamika Veeramani Spelling Bee Superstar Casts Spell on Spelling Bee Judges

June 6, 2010

WASHINGTON – Fourteen-year-old Anamika Veeramani (AHN’-uh-MEEK’-ah VEER’-ah-MAHN’-ee) of North Royalton, Ohio, has won the National Spelling Bee.

Anamika spelled the medical word “stromuhr” to capture the top prize Friday night. She receives more than $40,000 in cash and prizes — and, of course, the huge winner’s trophy.

Anamika is the third consecutive Indian-American bee champion, and the eighth the last 12 years. It’s a run that began when Nupur Lala won in 1999 and was featured in the documentary “Spellbound.”

Veeramani will be announced the official winner, once the check for spelling bee performance enhancing drugs such as Ridlin, Go Girl, and Red Bull is completed. The streak  of victories has cast some light on the spelling bee trainer responsible for  the past 8 national champions and super spelling bee success run. Trainer Yogesh Gupta, nationally  known spelling guhru and word wildman, has made a sucessful career as a spellbee super trainerYogesh is brother of CNN Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon and an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Emory University. Both Yogesh and Sanjay have worked together on studying  brain chemistry and brain funtion of spelling really  long words. Yogesh has been criticized for kid focused infomercials, involving  spelling suppliment drinks and exercises.

Gupta  maintains that his super spelling shake drinks really really work, his spellers are clean, and has warned Scripps to back off or prepared to have their ass onomatopoeiaed…
