Disney Attempting To Trademark Seal Team 6, I Smell A Rat

May 26, 2011

SEAL Team 6 isn’t going down without a fight.

The Navy is challenging Disney’s attempt to trademark the name of the elite squad responsible for taking out the world’s most wanted terrorist.

On May 3, just two days after Usama bin Laden was killed in a raid on the Al Qaeda leader’s Pakistan compound, Disney filed trademark applications to use the name “SEAL Team 6” on everything from entertainment, toys, video games, clothing, footwear — even Christmas ornaments and snow globes.

Disney’s applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office filed cover three separate categories of goods and services — meaning, they don’t yet have consumer products but intend to in the future.

But 10 days later, on May 13, the U.S. Navy hit back, filing two applications of its own. The Navy’s competing applications sought trademark status for “SEAL Team” posters and clothing, as well as “Navy SEAL” goods and services, identifying the Navy squad as an organization that “develops and executes military missions involving special operations strategy, doctrine and tactics.”

“Disney filed in the category of entertainment. Maybe they want to come out with an amusement park ride and the Navy’s not in that business, so there really isn’t a conflict there,” he said. “If Disney decides they’re going to invade countries, then there might be an issue.” Perhaps man and mouse can coexists, at least on some of the trademark issues,  said Mark Warzecha, trademark attorney with Zies Widerman & Malek, a Florida  law firm.

Guy Facebooked, Wife 1 Discovers Wife 2 has a #2 Fit

CLEVELAND — Dread of the unknown hung in the air as Lynn France typed two words into the search box on Facebook: the name of the woman with whom she believed her husband was having an affair.

Click. And there it was, the stuff of nightmares for any spouse, cuckolded or not. Wedding photos. At Walt Disney World, no less, featuring her husband literally dressed as Prince Charming. His new wife, a pretty blonde, was a glowing Sleeping Beauty, surrounded by footmen.

“I was numb with shock, to tell you the truth,” says France, an occupational therapist from Westlake, a Cleveland suburb. “There was like an album of 200 pictures on there. Their whole wedding.”

The husband claimed Thursday that his marriage to Lynn France was never valid. He said she knew earlier about the other marriage and was making the Facebook claim as a publicity ploy.

A girlfriend recommended checking the woman’s Facebook page, which was then open to the public, France says, but has since become private. There, France found evidence of an unfolding relationship that she still couldn’t wrap her head around. Overwhelmed with two young children, she confronted her husband. She says he told her he wouldn’t actually go through with the wedding.

It wasn’t until she saw the wedding photos that she finally began divorce proceedings.

Moody Eye on the Movie Eye..Bad in all Three Dimensions

In honest truth, whether this was for getting paychecks or just putting on a pretty outfit for the girls to see, Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience was a film that should of never made it past movie critics. This is proof that the music industry is failing on the surface and is desperate to put any no-talent jockey on the music scene. The worst, and perhaps the most shocking aspect of the movie is Disney’s involvement with the Jonas Brothers. Just seeing the Disney logo slapped on the front is enough to make any classic Disney fan cry in terror. The 3-D Concert Experience is nothing redeeming, nothing new, nothing special, and nothing exciting.  This movie is a real bomb…
