Oprah and Own Channel Have Ratings 10% Lower Than Discovery Health, Awkward

March 1, 2011

The OWN channel, which launched two months ago, is being watched by only 135,000 people at any one time.

The ratings are 10 per cent lower than for the cable channel it replaced which was called Discovery Health.

And only 45,000 of those watching are women aged 25 to 54, the audience the channel is being aimed at.

Miss Winfrey, 57, has urged patience and supporters say ratings will improve when the chat show host begins appearing more regularly herself towards the end of the year.

She will still be busy filming “The Oprah Winfrey Show” for the ABC network until September, but will then be able to devote more time to her own channel. That will include having her own show two or three nights a week.

Awkward……

Oprah Winfrey Takes Ownership Of Own Channel, Viewership Falls As She Sinks The Discovery Channel

January 21, 2011

NEW YORK – After a strong opening at the beginning of the year, ratings for OWN, the cable network joint venture of Oprah Winfrey and Discovery Communications, have declined, with shows with Winfrey’s name in the title remaining its strongest performers.

For its second week, ratings for OWN fell about 20 percent among its target demo of women over 25 years old, according to the New York Post. The average audience in prime time was 310,000 people.

Discovery and Winfrey have predicted bumps in the road, and most experts expected ratings to come down from a strong start.

OWN viewership so far is “a little lower than I’d thought it would be, but I don’t think it’s alarming,” advertising expert Brad Adgate of Horizon Media told the Post. He pointed to network and cable series premieres this month, which are likely to affect OWN’s performance.

Discovery Channel To Air The Exorcist Files, With Plans For Demon Purging Ride-Along Marketing

January 6, 2011

Discovery Channel is teaming with the Vatican for an unprecedented new series hunting the deadliest catch of all: Demons.

The Exorcist Files will recreate stories of real-life hauntings and demonic possession, based on cases investigated by the Catholic Church. The project includes access into the Vatican’s case files, as well as interviews with the organization’s top exorcists — religious experts who are rarely seen on television.

“The Vatican is an extraordinarily hard place to get access to, but we explained we’re not going to try to tell people what to think,” says Discovery president and GM Clark Bunting.

“The work these folks do, and their conviction in their beliefs, make for fascinating stories,” Bunting says.

If the show’s first season is successful, the network hopes its partnership with the Church will pave the way for producers GoGo Luckey to take the series to the next level — joining Catholic investigators on live demon-purging ride-alongs.

Discovery Channel, GoGo Luckey, and the Vatican will explore for demons as well as new marketing niches for exciting Popemobile ride-alongs.

Discovery Channel Could Have Averted The Crisis, With More Air Jaws

September 2, 2010

A gunman police shot to death after he took hostages at Discovery Channel’s headquarters said he hated the company’s shows such as “Kate Plus 8” because they promote population growth and its environmental programming because it did little to save the planet.

Three hostages — two Discovery Communications employees and a security guard — escaped unhurt after the four-hour standoff Wednesday in Silver Spring, just outside the nation’s capital. After several hours negotiating with the gunman, tactical officers moved in when authorities monitoring him on building security cameras saw him pull out a handgun and point it at a hostage, Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger said.

James E Lee, Al Gore Groupie is No Tea Party Member, Nothing to See Here Move Along

September 1, 2010

Lee appears to have posted environmental and population-control demands online, saying humans are ruining the planet and that Discovery should develop programs to sound the alarm.

“I want Discovery Communications to broadcast on their channels to the world their new program lineup and I want proof they are doing so. I want the new shows started by asking the public for inventive solution ideas to save the planet and the remaining wildlife on it,” the alleged manifesto reads, adding:

“Nothing is more important than saving … the Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. The humans? The planet does not need humans.”

Court records show that Lee was arrested Feb. 21, 2008, on the sixth day of a protest at the Discovery building. At the time of his conviction in March 2008, he was identified as being from San Diego.

Lee said at the time that he experienced an ‘‘awakening” when he watched former Vice President Al Gore’s environmental documentary ‘‘An Inconvenient Truth.”

James E Lee did not fly into IRS building or attempt to blow up Time Square..Unfortunately Lee is an Al Gore clone and not a tea party member…  Nothing to see here, move along. Press determined story dead on arrival.
