Clinton Wedding, Get Your Score Card Here, Mother of the Groom, Clinton Finally Returns the Favor

July 31, 2010

Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky of Pennsylvania was the final vote for the 1993 President Clinton’s tax increases.

As Ms. Margolies-Mezvinsky marched down the aisle toward her fateful moment, House Republicans sang, “Bye-bye, Margie.” A year later, their prediction came true. Winning 49 percent of the district vote to Ms. Margolies-Mezvinsky’s 45 percent, Mr. Fox joined 72 other Republican freshmen to end 40 years of Democratic rule in the House.

Clinton Wedding.Get Your Score Card Here, The Groom, Collectors Want His Rookie Card

July 31, 2010

THE GROOM: The couple have much in common. Not only is Marc Mezvinsky from a political family — they also come complete with their own scandal.

The son of former Iowa congressman Edward Mezvinsky and former NBC reporter and congresswoman Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky, 32-year-old Marc was raised in Philadelphia with ten siblings.

Like Chelsea, he has also eschewed politics, although for less altruistic causes, swapping Capitol Hill for Wall Street, where he worked for investment bank Goldman Sachs, then a small hedge fund. It appears to have brought great financial rewards. In February 2008 he bought a Fifth Avenue apartment for around $4million which he now shares with his fiance. The ring he gave Chelsea is valued at more than a million dollars..

Collectors say the  Marc Mezvinsky rookie card is more valuable than the Bernie Madoff rookie card and will explode in value if Marc ends up in jail like his dad Ed.

Financial Report Is In, Jenna Bush Is Smarter Than Chelsea Clinton

July 30, 2010

Eye View Personal Finance.

Here are seven financial messages for would-be brides, grooms—and their parents.

1. The wedding-industrial will not die.   “We’re in a recession-resistant industry,” says Carley Roney, editor-in-chief of Knot Inc.’s TheKnot, the weddings website. The company’s data suggest that the price of the median wedding, which dropped from $19,000 to $17,500 from 2008 to 2009, has now stabilized this year unlike the housing market.

2. Spending a fortune on a wedding is a choice, not a necessity. Chelsea’s wedding is likely to cost $2 million to $3 million, says Ms. Roney. But first daughter Jenna Bush managed to hold a somewhat quieter affair for a lot less when she got married two years ago. She invited about 200 guests and held the wedding on her parents’ ranch in Texas. It was hardly cheap, but at $100,000, the tab wasn’t even in the same ballpark.

3. Spend what you can afford. Sure, the Clintons are spending a lot, but they are rich. Their net worth was estimated at $35 million not long ago. Chelsea is their only child. And Bill gets paid about $250,000 a speech. After taxes, that’s about $160,000. So he could clear a $3 million tab for Chelsea’s big day with 19 speeches during the wedding alone..

4. Look at the hourly costs. For Chelsea’s event, if the ceremony starts at 6 p.m. and the guests party into the small hours, the whole affair may last maybe 11 hours. For $3 million, that’s $270,000 an hour. How much fun can anyone have in an hour? Even if you’re, say, doing the tango with Oprah Winfrey? Look at the numbers for a regular wedding. A $17,500 event that lasts 11 hours is costing you about $1,500 an hour. If it lasts only, say, six hours, you’re spending nearly $3,000 an hour. Look how great a one hour wedding would be… Enjoy.

 5.  The lifetime cost will make you sick. People get angry when I point this out. But if your money earns, say, 4% a year above inflation, every dollar you save at age 20 will grow to about $6 by the time you retire. So that $17,500 will grow to about $100,000. And we’ve seen what can happen to jobs and wages in a slump. In these circumstances, saving money instead of spending it matters very much.

6. You might—possibly—be able to profit from others’ extravagance. For those who still play the market, Knot Inc. may be of speculative interest. With its stock trading at $8, the company’s entire market value is down to $270 million. It has about $130 million of cash and equivalents and no debt. Operating cash flow last year was $12 million. Results are due next week. One to watch.

7. How do you cut costs and still have a great wedding? Avoid Saturdays and peak seasons, says Ms. Roney. Avoid fancy venues and big cities. Make it more casual: A lot of the money goes toward those big formal dinners. And invite fewer guests. Five hundred people is going to cost you, even if they’re not famous. Go for a twilight or matinee wedding…

Bottom line? Jenna Bush is smarter than Chelsea Clinton.

Clinton Wedding Driving Everyone Crazy

July 27, 2010

Town officials in the Hudson Valley bracing for Chelsea Clinton’s wedding this weekend approved spending $2,500 for extra police coverage.
The Rhinebeck Town Council authorized the spending during a meeting Monday.
Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, is expected to marry investment banker Marc Mezvinsky on a private estate on the river on Saturday.

The Clintons have refused to disclose the location wedding. But Rhinebeck Supervisor Thomas Traudt said based on his conversations with state and county police, the extra service this weekend will be helpful.

One resident at the council meeting shouted that the extra expenses should be paid for by the father of the bride.

Clintons Desperate To Unload Chelsea, $2M Payoff

July 23, 2010

When Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky tie the knot on July 31 they will be surrounded by friends, family and an A-list of celebrities that is likely to include more than one world leader. Hey, Dad’s a former president and Mom’s the current Secretary of State, after all.

Details of the wedding are slowly leaking out — it’s presumed to be in the small upstate New York village of Rhinebeck– and it doesn’t appear to disappoint. While nobody but the Clintons knows the exact price, it’s shaping up to be a costly affair: the total price tag could easily reach $2 million.

Finally a taker…

There is One I In Clinton, But 3 U’s In Shut The F*ck Up

July 22, 2010

HANOI, Vietnam – Chelsea Clinton’s big day may be half a world away but that hasn’t tempered enthusiasm in Vietnam for her upcoming nuptials.

In Hanoi on Thursday for diplomatic meetings a little over a week before the July 31 wedding, mother-of-the-bride and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was given a wedding present — a white tablecloth — for her daughter by the Vietnamese government along with gemstone mosaic portrait of her and Chelsea during their 2000 visit to the country.

“Very nice,” Clinton said when Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem presented her with the tablecloth and congratulated her on the marriage of her only child. “I’m very honored. I will be very pleased to give it to her.”

Al Gore Wishing Chelsea Clinton and Her New Husband A “Happy Ending”

July 20, 2010

In more Chelsea Clinton wedding news, Al and Tipper Gore will not be attending the former first daughter’s nuptials, the New York Daily News reports.

A statement released by the Gores’ camp said they “are not attending the wedding. They both wish Chelsea well, believe she is a wonderful young woman, and they share in the family’s excitement.”

But did Al and Tipper even make it onto the guest list to begin with? A Gore family spokesperson had no comment as to whether they were invited. Last December, Al reportedly said he was “looking forward to Chelsea’s wedding–that’s a happy occasion.”

Al made a point to request that Chelsea and her new husband especially have a happy ending…

Chelsea Clinton Wedding, National Migraine In Our Cerebral Heads

July 15, 2010

NEW YORK – Dubbed “The Wedding of the Century,” the Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky nuptials this month are shrouded in secrecy. Lynnley Browning lifts the veil on the mansion, the party, the guests, and the gift bags.

If Chelsea Clinton gets a migraine during the final fitting for her custom Oscar de la Renta wedding gown, she’ll have a stylish new place to rest her cerebral head.

Clinton recently bought two cream, lavender, and taupe sofa pillows at Hammertown, a tony home-furnishings store in Rhinebeck, New York, the quaint village on the Hudson River where she is marrying private-banker boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky this month.

Rhonda Cayea, manager of Hammertown, described the $178 pillows as “understated”—an adjective that doesn’t apply to much in Rhinebeck. Hoping migraine treatment in national health care..
