ASU Offers Courses In Defying Social Norms And Role Playing

July 4, 2014

Female Arizona State University students can receive extra credit for defying social norms and refusing to shave for 10 weeks during the semester. Women and Gender Studies Professor Breanne Fahs, encourages her female students to cease shaving their underarms and legs during the semester and document their experiences in a journal. Student Stephanie Robinson said it was a “life changing experience. “Many of my friends didn’t want to work out next to me or hear about the assignment, and my mother was distraught at the idea that I would be getting married in a white dress with armpit hair,” Robinson told ASU news. Fahs says the experiment illustrates social issues with gender roles, particularly with the male participants.

Sick Refugee Kids On Commercial Planes And Don’t Call Me Shirley

July 2, 2014

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. The nurse said the lice issue was epidemic – but everything was kept “hush-hush.” “You could see the bugs crawling through their hair,” she said. “After we would rinse out their hair, the sink would be loaded with black bugs.”The nurse told me she became especially alarmed because their files indicated the children had been transported to Lackland on domestic charter buses and airplanes. “That’s what alerted me,” she said. “Oh, my God. They’re flying these kids around. Nobody knows that these children have scabies and lice. To tell you the truth, there’s no way to control it.”

Hillary Outraged By Hobby Lobby Decision Protecting Statute Signed By Bill Clinton In 1993 Thats Rich

July 2, 2014

Hillary Clinton blasted the Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling, announced Monday, that craft chain Hobby Lobby and other “closely held” for-profit companies do not have to provide contraceptives to their employees if doing so violates their religious beliefs. “I disagree with the reasoning as well as the conclusion,” Clinton said during a Facebook Live interview at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. “I find it deeply disturbing we are going in that direction.”

San Fran Provides Public Shower On A Bus For The Homeless What Could Go Wrong?

June 30, 2014

In May, San Francisco introduced the “Hook-up Truck,” providing intimate space for couples on the go. Now, the city is welcoming the “Lava Mae,” a public shower on a bus, aimed at the city’s large homeless population. San Francisco has been fighting a losing battle with homelessness for decades. City officials concede that they have made little progress over the years despite massive spending, amounting to $34 per homeless person per day. The founders of Lava Mae, which launched late last week, aim to provide direct relief–and dignity–to the homeless, providing showers installed inside converted municipal buses that will travel around the city.

Ask The Eye Update Facebook For Stalker Outing

June 29, 2014

Dear Eye View

I started a new job several months ago. Almost immediately, I picked up on the repeated appearance of a certain co-worker whenever I go to lunch. This might sound like a coincidence, but we work downtown in a major city and I always leave the building to go to lunch. I go at different times of day (and not on the hour) and sit in different plazas and food courts but I see him sitting in the background more often than not. It is creepy. I didn’t tell anyone about this because I don’t want to seem paranoid or like I’m flattering myself about having a “stalker.” But today I walked to a new location 10 minutes away from work and he walked right in front of me and waved! I waved back but it was pretty unnerving and I can’t pretend this isn’t happening. We never talk at work and are never involved in any of the same projects. We just see each other in the hallway. Is this an unsolvable problem? Is it even a problem? I am married and he can see that. Concerned

Dear Concerned  You need to do some more reconnaissance before you take any action. It’s best to deal directly with that person. But this is so odd and undefinable, that I don’t see how you say, “You seem to be stalking me at lunch. Am I mistaken?” After all, he can totally deny it, and you really can’t say he’s not allowed to eat at the same plazas you are. I would recommend you update Facebook for stalker outing,

UNLV Students Want Hillary Clinton Speaking Fee To Stay In Vegas

June 28, 2014

Two top student government leaders at the University of Las Vegas are requesting Hillary Clinton return the “outrageous” $225,000 speaking fee she reportedly will receive for an upcoming speech at the school in October.”We really appreciate anybody who would come to raise money for the university. But anybody who’s being paid $225,000 to come speak, we think that’s a little bit outrageous. And we’d like Secretary Clinton — respectfully — to gracefully return the money to the university or the foundation,” Waqar said on the Nevada political proram “Ralston Reports.”Clinton, an expected front-runner in the 2016 Democratic presidential contest, has had her wealth come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks. Despite being a reported multimillionaire, Clinton has stumbled through several gaffes, including an interview where she insisted she was not “truly well off. Feds Looking To House Illegal Kids In Abandoned Walmart

June 27, 2014

Scrambling to secure accommodations for the overwhelming surge of Central American minors crossing into the U.S. illegally, the federal government is looking at several sites in New York as potential shelters, including a rundown former Walmart building.Though the location has been vacant for about seven years, and is in many respects what some might term a “fixer-upper,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and General Services Administration are looking at an old Walmart store in Sweden, New York, “to determine whether it may be used as a facility for temporarily housing children who have come into the United States from other countries without an adult guardian.”The proposal is not without opposition, however. The town’s supervisor, a New York congressman and residents all say it’s a terrible idea.

Tax On Yoga Pants May Not Be A Tax On Wellness

June 25, 2014

WASHINGTON — Despite opposition from operators of health clubs and personal trainers, the D.C. Council approved a plan on Tuesday that would extend the city’s sale tax to gym memberships, dance and yoga classes and personal training. Hours later, the D.C. mayor’s office spoke out against the tax, citing the District’s “serious problem with obesity.” Pedro Ribeiro, a spokesman for Mayor Vincent Gray, says “every option remains on the table,” and the mayor has not yet decided whether he’ll sign the bill. Supporters of the plan, including Councilwoman Mary Cheh, point out that the tax is part of a restructuring plan intended to broaden the tax base and lower residents’ tax rates. Cheh bridled at opponents branding the tax a “yoga tax” or a “wellness tax.” “We apply a sales tax to your yoga mat is that a yoga tax? We apply the sales tax to your running shoes, my running shoes, and other sporting equipment, is that a tax of wellness?” Cheh argued. Tax opponents believe the tax will add $60 to $80 a year to fitness club memberships in the city.

Ask The Eye Just The Equifax Ma’am

June 23, 2014

Dear Eye View

My good friend has found her mate after several failed relationships and is desperate to be married and start her family (tick tock). I am thrilled that she is engaged, and she has asked me to be in the wedding. I would normally be pleased to do so, except for one issue. She has debt of approximately $250,000 in credit cards and student loans, and she has not told her fiancé about this. I feel strongly that she is morally and ethically required to tell him before they are married, but she refuses. I can’t help but feel like an accomplice to her dishonesty by standing up in the wedding. What is the right thing to do? Scared

Dear Scared

I understand your concern. After the couple recites the traditional vows, “for richer, for poorer” Equifax can guarantee he’s going to get a whole lot poorer. You must tell the groom -to be. You need to tell him before it is too late. tic tock… Hope this helps.
