Oklahoma Cancer Survivor’s Obamacare Plan Doesn’t Cover A Single Doctor In 400 Miles Radius Not Such A Beautiful Morning

May 31, 2014

A cancer survivor that signed up for health insurance on Oklahoma’s federally-run Obamacare exchange was told there isn’t a single doctor that accepts the plan within 400 miles of her, according to KTEN-TX. Janet Grigg, who has survived colon cancer, attempted to use her newly-purchased Blue Cross Blue Care insurance plan at her regular cancer screening, but was turned down.
“When I got there they said to me that the [insurance] card would not be accepted, and that they had in fact received a memo,” Grigg told KTEN-TX. She was left to pay for the visit out of pocket, as well as any future visits to the practice. “I would not find a doctor within a 400-mile radius from Dallas up to Oklahoma City that would, in fact, take the plan that I had chosen, that I thought would be accepted in my county, because I did select my county as my residence,” Grigg said. Not such a beautiful morning.

Ask The Eye On The Road To Recovery With “That Guy”

May 30, 2014

Dear Eye View
I’m a 31-year-old male and consider myself to be a borderline sociopath. I view this as a neural development disorder where many people fall along a spectrum, not something to be “treated” or changed. I have a strong “logical morality” and do not wish harm to anyone, but I do come first and don’t commonly feel guilt or remorse. This seems to work in most areas of my life, but dating is a problem. By all recognizable accounts I am easygoing, successful, charming, and normal. However, I do not feel love the way I imagine many people do. My love for someone peaks around the two-month mark in the relationship and I can feel that way for nearly anyone who meets my dating criteria. But I have been the “love of their life” for many women, who form incredibly deep bonds and end up devastated after they realize our relationship will not progress and it ends for seemingly no reason. In some of these relationships I have even been entirely up front that I simply don’t “feel” the way most people do and they have not been deterred. So, what am I to do? I don’t enjoy hurting others, but I do enjoy when others care for me. Do I just continue this pattern throughout life, enjoying each relationship for what it is and knowing that if the woman gets her heart-broken she will eventually get over it and go on to better relationships? Or is that callous and morally demanding of a better approach?

—Not a “Feeler”

Dear NaF

I understand your concern. Its hard being “that guy”. We understand you just don’t get enough credit for not being a violent psychopath. A better approach is to be both honest and empathetic. So stop making vague declarations about your lack of feelings. Be explicit at the beginning that you have never been in—and don’t care to start now—a relationship that lasted more than a few months. State that marriage is not for you. Say you offer a good time in the short-term. Second try to  work on becoming more empathetic. Its a good look. Hope this helps.

Finnish Study Shows Cynicism Leads To Dementia

May 29, 2014

Cynics are three times more likely to develop dementia than those who have faith in humanity, a Finnish study has shown.
Believing that others are motivated by selfishness, or that they lie to get what they want, appears to radically increase the risk of cognitive decline in later life. It could mean that grumpy old men and women should be screened more closely for diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Cynicism has previously been linked to health problems such as heart disease, but this is the first time it has been associated with dementia.  While another study has shown ignorance is bliss.

Ask The Eye Grandma Often Participated In Group Hugs

May 28, 2014

Dear Eye View My mother-in-law passed away about a year ago. Her funeral was a very informal, share-your-stories-and-memories format. Well, she was a lifelong alcoholic with a sharp tongue and a history of difficult relationships. Honestly, she was mean as hell when she was sober, and when drunk she was beyond compare. The share-your-stories format devolved into the sharing of horror stories, thinly veiled as “Oh, wasn’t it funny when …” No one actually sang “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” but I think they could have rung out a rousing chorus if anyone had even hummed the opening bars. Our school-age children have mostly not commented on the nature of the remarks made. But the oldest is a teenager, and she asked me why Grandma did so many awful things. I told her that alcohol leads people into unwise decisions, and that alcoholics often hurt the people close to them. We talked pretty frankly about genetic links, and the fact that all the other family members are very, very careful with alcohol; and she will need to be careful, too. My wife is furious. She feels I spoke ill of the dead. She wants me to somehow repair the damage to her mom’s image, and I don’t know what to do. Not Sure

Dear Not Sure
it’s not unusual for a child to want to cover up the awfulness of a parent, or at least temper it. But I think you handled your daughter’s question with sensitivity and honesty, and also got to throw in an important lecture on the hereditary nature of addiction. If your wife wants to weigh in on her mother’s good qualities, she should do so. Tell her Grandma often participated in group hugs.

Hope this helps.

Millionaire Hides Money In San Fran Creates A Lot Of Fun

May 27, 2014

A millionaire with cash to burn is paying it forward in a big way: by hiding envelopes stuffed with $100 across the Bay Area for strangers to find.
The anonymous man told ABC News he’s a successful real estate investor who just wanted to give back. “I wanted to do something fun for the city of San Francisco, something that would get people excited. “The mystery man, who posts clues about his cash drops on Twitter under the handle @HiddenCash, says he plans to expand to New York and Los Angeles soon. He says he has already given away nearly $4,000 since Thursday night. Gleeful followers post photos on social media of the envelopes they find, sometimes taped to ATMs, parking meters or under benches.Richard Rodriguez and his partner raced to a street in San Francisco’s Mission district Sunday seconds after the Twitter account gave a hint the cash would be hidden on a parking meter there.  It’s not a lot of money. It’s not going to change your life. But the camaraderie it brings out in people is a lot of fun.”

Truth is Stranger Than Fiction Director Peter Rodger Is Anti-Gun Pro Video For Autistic Son

May 25, 2014

His father is famous for helping to make The Hunger Games, the futuristic Hollywood blockbuster about teenagers pitted against each other in a fight to the death. However, Elliot Rodger created his own dystopian drama on Friday when he embarked on a deadly gun rampage, killing six people — just hours after posting a video online declaring war on the comfortable Californian world in which he grew up. The 22-year-old, who was born in London and moved to America at the age of five, was photographed two years ago on the red carpet for the premiere of The Hunger Games, accompanied by his father, Peter, an assistant director. The sister of Hunger Games assistant director Peter Rodger told Sky News his family are “in total shock” and called for changes to US gun laws in the wake of the atrocity in California. Speaking from her home in Cazals, France, Jenni Rodger said: “I can’t imagine how awful this must be for the families of those killed. My heart goes out to them. Shifman, the family attorney, said Rodger was being treated by “several” medical professionals for a form of Asperger syndrome, a disorder on the autism spectrum.

Rodger details throughout his manifesto that he filled a void in his life with violent video games starting at a young age.

Breaking News Helicopter Takes Off And Lands From Neighbors Front Yard, Kind Of A Big Deal

May 25, 2014

A quiet residential community in Valrico, Florida, is fed up with a helicopter taking off at all hours of the day – not from an airport, but from a neighbor’s front yard. “The helicopter has been going on for about two or three weeks now. He’s been doing fly-over’s, buzzing the tree tops,” Michael Sullivan tells ABC Tampa affiliate WFTV.The convenience of having a helicopter is not worth the inconvenience it’s causing to all us neighbors,” Dan Ferguson tells WFTV.”We conducted inspection today. Unfortunately the helicopter was not on site so we weren’t able to view it,” Division Director John Blinck tells ABC News. So this is going to be an ongoing investigation.” In follow up story Hologram Tupac has been  shot.

CA Porn Stars Claim Using Condoms Violates Their Free Speech

May 23, 2014

On Tuesday, a delegation of porn stars known as The Free Speech Coalition traveled to Sacramento to protest purported first amendment violations inherent in a newly proposed California bill. According to the LA Weekly, AB 1576 could prescribe criminal penalties for not using condoms by actors on sets and force producers to keep logs of all performers’ sexual activities. The Weekly reports that the measure would also deny the performers the right to federally mandated medical privacy. The coalition argues that AB 1576 violates the filmmakers’ right to free speech by demanding that they produce films, videos, and magazines to look a certain way (male actors with condoms). The Weekly contends that specific argument has already been tested in court unsuccessfully.
