Castro To Plead Not Guilty, To Get A Fair Trial May Seek A Change in Venue

May 15, 2013

Lawyers for Ariel Castro say he’ll plead not guilty to charges of kidnapping and raping three women while holding them captive for a decade in his west Cleveland home. “The initial portrayal by the media has been one of a ‘monster’ and that’s not the impression that I got when I talked to him for three hours,” Craig Weintraub, one of Castro’s lawyers, told Cleveland’s WKYC-TV late Tuesday. The 52-year-old is being held on an $8 million bond in Cuyahoga County Jail and is under a suicide watch. Castro’s attorneys say that how he came into contact with the women will be revealed “as the case progresses.” And they say they may seek a change of venue to get a fair trial.

Neighborhood Drone Research Program Ascends To New Heights of Creepiness

May 15, 2013

A Seattle man ascended to a new level of creepiness recently when he flew a drone just a “few feet away” from a family’s home and defended his right to do so because he was flying it in the air, and thus not trespassing. He also claimed it was for research. The camera-equipped device emitted a loud noise, similar to that of a weed-whacker, which caught the attention of a woman inside.

She told Capitol Hill Seattle Blog that she saw the man on the sidewalk controlling the device near a third-story window in the eastern neighborhood. Her husband approached the man, who was standing on the sidewalk , and told him to desist from being creepy. The man told him that he was doing “research” and the camera was transmitting the images to his glasses.

New drone research……. where the research possibillities are endless.

The IRS Hammers News Anchor After Obama Interview, When The IRS Has Your Health They Have Everything

May 15, 2013

Larry Conners, a veteran local news anchor at KMOV Channel 4 in St. Louis, says that the Internal Revenue Service has been targeting him since an April 2012 interview he conducted with President Obama — a fact that he dismissed as coincidence until the recent reports about the IRS targeting conservative groups.

“Shortly after I did my April 2012 interview with President Obama, my wife, friends and some viewers suggested that I might need to watch out for the IRS. I don’t accept ‘conspiracy theories’, but I do know that almost immediately after the interview, the IRS started hammering me,” Conners wrote on his Facebook page late Monday night.

Federal Government Producing More Low Wage Jobs Than Walmart and McDonalds Put Together

May 14, 2013

The federal government is better at creating low-paying jobs than Wal-Mart and McDonald’s combined, according to a new report. A study released earlier this month from the public policy group Demos states that through various forms of government funding in the private sector, nearly two million people are making $12 an hour or less. The number of workers at Wal-Mart and McDonald’s together at $12 an hour or less is currently around 1.5 million.

Michael Vick Cheats In Foot Race States I Choose Not To Run

May 14, 2013

What began as good-natured ribbing between teammates seems to have taken a  turn for the sour over accusations of cheating. Last week, after weeks of teasing from his Philadelphia Eagles teammate,  running back LeSean McCoy, quarterback Michael Vick accepted a challenge to  race. Vick, 32, had reportedly had enough of McCoy, 24, teasing him and calling him  “old man,” and got permission from coach Chip Kelly to race during practice last  week. The “old man” crushed the competition, beating his younger teammate by about  five yards in the 40-yard race. But now, McCoy is accusing Vick of cheating, saying the quarterback  left before the gun, and he says he has proof.

When asked if he would consider a rematch  Vick said “I choose not to run”..

Ask The Eye Select 1 For Mothers Day

May 14, 2013

Dear Eye View

Each Mother’s Day I am expected to prepare and serve a special breakfast, plan and pay for an activity centered around what “mom” enjoys, and provide cards and gifts for my wife. We have a young child and have had gone through the same thing each of the four years. My problem? We are a lesbian couple. I’m a mom, too. She is the birth mother, but how do I explain to my wife that I want the special day, too? It’s not like I am celebrated on Father’s Day. One year it was so bad that when the restaurant offered each of us a free dessert with dinner, she claimed mine and asked for it in a to-go box. Mad

Dear Mad

I understand your concern. You would like to alternate being Mom on Mothers Day with your spouse. Now that the federal government has designated the status parent one and parent two on federal forms maybe you should suggest rotating  code number designation. Hope this helps.

Bang With Friends Takes Privacy Seriously

May 13, 2013

Bang With Friends, a mobile application that facilitates casual encounters among friends, has a simple pitch: “Your friends will never know you’re interested unless they are too.” Well, that’s not quite true, at least in all cases. They–that being any of your Facebook friends, including co-workers and parents–may, at the very least, know you’re using the app.“It’s another verification that you should be careful on Facebook and what you connect to,” said Redg Snodgrass, an entrepreneur, who shared the link on Facebook. “We take privacy very seriously at Bang With Friends and the vast majority of users will not show up in such a search.

NBC Cancels Rock Center Another Failed Clinton Program

May 11, 2013

NBC has pulled the plug on “Rock Center,” the prime-time news magazine hosted by “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams, after just two seasons, the network said late Friday.

The cancellation of “Rock Center” is a blow to Williams and NBC’s news unit, which spent a lot of money on the show. NBCUniversal Chief Executive Steve Burke was also a champion of “Rock Center.”

Besides Williams, “Rock Center” was filled with several big-name producers and correspondents including former “Nightline”anchor Ted Koppel and Harry Smith, a CBS News veteran. Even Chelsea Clinton had a stint as a reporter.

Repubs Refuse To Appoint Members To Death Panel, Missing Out On Alternative Energy Source

May 10, 2013

One of the most politically intense fights over  the Affordable  Care Act was over the creation of the Independent Payment Advisory Board,  infamously dubbed a “death panel” by Republicans during the 2010  elections. On Thursday, Republican House Speaker John  Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell signaled that they would  keep working to keep opposition alive by doing everything they can to impede the  board’s implementation. The two leaders wrote a letter to President Barack Obama, notifying him that  they would not be submitting any recommendations to the panel because of their  opposition to it and to the law in general.

I Payed Into Entitlement Programs My Whole Life And All I Got Was This T-Shirt

May 10, 2013

With Congress increasingly unable to resolve budget disputes, federal programs on automatic pilot are consuming ever larger amounts of government resources. The trend helps older Americans, who receive the bulk of Social Security and Medicare benefits, at the expense of younger people. This generational shift draws modest public debate. But it alarms some policy advocates, who say the United States is reducing vital investments in the future.”Entitlements are squeezing out public investments” in education, infrastructure, research and other fields that have nurtured future prosperity, the study said.
