Holder Claims Sacred Right To Vote Under Assault Due To Showing Scarey Photo ID Cards

May 31, 2012

Attorney General  Eric Holder told a council of African American church leaders Wednesday that the “sacred” right to vote is under assault nationwide, with federal lawsuits and at least a dozen state laws that could hinder – or block – minorities’ access to the ballot box this fall.

“In my travels across this country, I’ve heard a consistent drumbeat of concern from citizens, who – often for the first time in their lives – now have reason to believe that we are failing to live up to one of our nation’s most noble ideals,” Holder said in a speech before the Council of Black Churches.  The threats of legal assaults and lingering discrimination, he added, means that “some of the achievements that defined the civil rights movement now hang in the balance.”

Ask The Eye, Telegram Firing. stop… Family Style.. stop….Shocking…stop

Dear Eye View

My husband and I have been married for two years, and had a baby six weeks ago. I am a professional with a good job; my husband works in a small family business owned by his father. When we married, I kept my maiden name; when we chose our baby’s name, we agreed on a hyphenated last name. When the baby was born and my in-laws found out about the baby’s name, my husband was fired from his job (via telegram!). Last week he informed me that he had spoken with his father and got his job back, but he had told his father that we would change the baby’s name. While I understand his motivation, I cannot fathom living like this. I told him that I would not agree to continue to jump through hoops for his family, that I would not agree to the name change, that he couldn’t expect to be able to trick them indefinitely, and that someday they would learn that their grandchild has a hyphenated last name, so he’d better figure out how to get other employment. I also told him that they are no longer welcome in our house. Had I known from the start that the name would be such an issue, I would not have suggested hyphenating the name, but now that it’s done, I can’t imagine bowing down to their demands. My own family thinks I am wrong. What do you think?

CNN Ratings Continue To Plummet, Lowest Ratings In 20 Years, Airport Strategy Not Working

May 31, 2012

The news just went from bad to worse at CNN. After the cable news network delivered its lowest-rated month in total viewers in over a decade in April, May became CNN’s worst month in primetime among total viewers in over 20 years. From April 30 to May 27, the cable news network attracted an average of 389,000 viewers in primetime. It was also CNN’s second-lowest-rated month in primetime among the 25-54 demographic (114,000) since October 1991. Only May 2000, with 104,000 viewers in the demo, did worse.

May 28, 2012

Elvis Presley’s original crypt is going up for auction, Julien’s Auctions in  Beverly Hills announced Monday.

The “King of Rock and Roll” was laid to rest in the crypt at the Forest Hill  Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn., after his death in August 1977 at age 42.

But his body was moved after two months and reburied at his Graceland estate,  and the cemetery crypt has remained vacant.

The tomb that held Presley’s body will be sold as part of Julien’s Auctions  “Music Icons” sale June 23-24.

The winning bidder will receive the crypt — which lies within a granite and  marble mausoleum — opening and closing of the vault for burial, an inscription  to mark the crypt and access to the cemetery’s chapel for a funeral service.

Eye View Travel, Half Of Americans Hitting The Open Road While Other Half Using Their Indoor Voices

May 23, 2012

With summer just around the corner, millions of Americans are poised to take their cherished summer vacation. And according to the Yahoo!  Summer Travel survey, the “staycation” could be a thing of the past: Respondents say they’re not going to let an anemic economy or the price of gas keep them from hitting the road.  And if they could splurge on anything, it wouldn’t be shopping or fancy restaurants – it would seeing more attractions. The report, which questioned online consumers ages 18 to 64, found that nearly half of  them (49%) plan to take a summer vacation, and more than half of those (53%) plan on taking to the open road, exploring the nation’s highways and byways by car.

DC Comics To Out Gay Superhero, Holy Kleenex Batman, It Was Right Under Our Nose’s And We Blew It !!!!!!!

May 21, 2012

Gay DC character: Who will it be? At this point in time, legendary comic book company DC — you know, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. — isn’t revealing too many specific details surrounding the upcoming reinvention of a presently unnamed hero, though some believe the homosexual superhero will be an existing, established character.

This isn’t the first time that DC had dabbled with delivering gay comic book characters to the masses. After going back to the drawing board with the “New 52″, the company released books featuring Batwoman as a lesbian and Voodoo as a bisexual. Additionally, the Teen Titans franchise features an openly gay character named Bunker. However, despite previous claims that the gay superhero would be a new addition to the universe, DC has reversed its statement, proclaiming that one of its established characters is scheduled to come out of the closet.

“Holy strawberries Batman! We’re in a jam!”

Moderate Republican John Boehner Looks To Get Flattened While Playing Frogger

May 21, 2012

Republican House Speaker John Boehner compared trying to pass a bill in the House of Representatives to keeping “218 frogs in a wheelbarrow” on “This Week” this morning.

“I’ve never been shy about leading. But you know, leaders need followers.  And we’ve got 89 brand new members.  We’ve got a pretty disparate caucus,” Speaker Boehner said. “It is hard to keep 218 frogs in a wheelbarrow long enough to get a bill passed. “Boehner was responding to my question about the perception held by some that he has had difficulty maintaining control over his caucus during his tenure – especially the GOP freshman.

Kennedys Fight Over Body of Mary Richardson Kennedy, This Is One Sad Family

May 19, 2012

Mary  Richardson Kennedy nearly missed her own wake Friday after a legal battle  erupted over her body.

On one side was her estranged husband, Bobby Kennedy Jr., who was in the  midst of divorcing her when she hanged herself in a barn. He claimed the right  to decide where she would rest in peace.

On the other side were Mary’s brothers and sisters, who didn’t want her to  be buried beside members of the Kennedy clan in Hyannisport — and filed suit to  stop that from happening.

An eleventh-hour court order from a Westchester County judge enabled Bobby  to retrieve her body from the medical examiner, where it had been since she  committed suicide on Wednesday.

This is one sad family.

Eye View Hollywood, Will Smith Gets Patriotic

May 17, 2012

During an interview this week with a French TV station, actor Will Smith said he supported the idea of paying higher taxes — but he was shocked when the reporter told him about a proposal from France’s new president to raise the marginal tax rate to 75 percent.

“I have no issue with paying taxes and whatever needs to be done for my country to grow. I believe very firmly that my ability to sit here — I’m a black man who didn’t go to college, yet I get to travel around the world and sell my movies, and I believe very firmly that America is the only place on Earth that I could exist,” Smith said. “So I will pay anything that I need to pay to keep my country growing.”

That’s when the interviewer mentioned that France could have a 75 percent tax rate on income over one million Euros.

“Seventy-five?” Smith gasped. “Yeah, that’s different, that’s different. Yeah, 75. Well, you know, God bless America.”

Grumet was one of four mothers photographed by Time for a cover story on “attachment parenting,” an approach–outlined by 1992’s “The Baby Book” by Dr. Bill Sears–that recommends extended breast-feeding, co-sleeping and “baby wearing.”

The provoctive cover, published online Thursday, was met with the predictable Twitter jaw-drop.

“Love the Time cover,” AllThingsD.com’s Peter Kafka wrote. “In the cringiest way possible.”
